What Am I Doing Now
I retired young from two careers, most likely temporarily, to spend extra time with my school-aged kids while they still think hanging out with dad is fun. I’m often asked do you get bored, what do you do all day?
No, I don’t get bored. As for what I do all day, in 2024 it goes something like this:
- I make sure our family is well fed, organized for school and activities, and I keep the standard homemaker tasks up to date.
- I coach my kids’ athletic teams and I try to stay involved with track and field, even if my kids aren’t sold on participating just yet. I keep my own fitness and nutrition in good shape, and when I have some free time, I play average golf with great friends. I also make sure to spend some time in a sauna a few times a week.
- I do financial planning for friends and family and am a retail investor for my family portfolio. I also do some consulting on strategic planning, public and corporate finance, and stakeholder communication and engagement.
- I spend a lot of time reading, mostly learning on a variety of topics related to family, fitness, and finance; and lately, I have been mixing in some epic fantasy and science fiction novels.
I recognize how fortunate I am to be able to spend my time how I do, it’s a great way to live.
Some things I used to be include:
- The Head Coach of the University of Regina Cougars Track and Field and Cross Country team.
- A Policy Analyst, Budget Analyst, and an Executive Director for the Government of Saskatchewan.
- A national track and field medalist in long jump and triple jump.
- A consistently strong student, who in hindsight, should have become a better listener early in life.
